Now for something completely different!

Almost every single game I play counts as a “survival game” (I must get around to talking about New Heights sometime..) and I am certainly not really a puzzle game person. Or rather, not as a pc game. However earlier in October I was approached on X by the developers behind OctoMaze and invited to take a look at it.

Intrigued, I went to have a look and, as it was only a few pounds to buy – and the developing game studio are in Ukraine – I decided to buy it and take a look.

The result of my “first look” can be seen on my YouTube channel.

The gameplay is based on the use of a unique new game mechanics – that you solve puzzles using the octopus’ tentacles. With it, you can both destroy enemies and collect items and objects while avoiding the death of a tentacle. The current version includes 90 main levels separated over 6 locations. After finishing each location, player can unlock location’s bonus levels (over 70 in total currently). In my video I only scratched the surface of the opening levels yet I was unexpectedly drawn in.

Not being a regular player of puzzle games, I genuinely didn’t expect to be particularly interested in this. I was wrong! The game is much more complex than it appears on first sight, and I ended up completely taken in by the mechanics of the game and determined to succeed! I can see many hours being lost trying to better my score and beat the game. More than worth the money.

Watch my video and decide for yourself and maybe support the developers by purchasing a copy. If you do, come back here and let me know what you thought of it!
