Today I am taking a first look at “Your Journey of Survival” showing the basics of the game.
Released in December 2023 by Bytewerkz (formerly Smartly Gophered Games), “Your Journey of Survival” is an expansive open-world game blending FPS, survival, tower defence, and RPG elements. Players venture into the wilderness of Njarovik, scavenging for resources to construct elaborate structures and craft various items. From basic tools to advanced weaponry like Assault Rifles, crafting requires both resource gathering and unlocking recipes.
Survival hinges on navigating environmental challenges, including encounters with AI adversaries like bandits and wildlife, as well as contending with hunger, thirst, and weather effects such as rain and snow. Players can opt for solo play against AI or engage in PVP with other players, with customizable gameplay options.
The game offers freedom and creativity, allowing players to build and destroy structures, raid other players’ bases, and engage in farming and hunting for sustenance. Durability mechanics necessitate repairing or replacing tools and weapons, adding a layer of strategic management to gameplay.
Currently in early access, the game is now on Alpha 2.2 with Alpha 3 expected some time around the end of May. The next update is due to add a reasonable amount of content to the game, as they respond to feedback from players in early access.
Bytewerkz are a United States-based small development team also responsible for Project Speed, and Project Speed 2, 3D Sandbox Driving Games with multiple maps and vehicles to choose from, made with Unreal Engine 5.
The game is in VERY early access and I found many aspects of the game to be very clunky at the moment. The interaction with the AI, specifically the fighting, is AWFUL and hopefully will drastically improve with the next update. The game uses the radial menu style for crafting, with the usual mix of items available but again, it is all still very clunky.
The graphics overall are nice, and there is potential here for the game but this felt more like a demo or beta testing rather than an early access game.
Watch the rest of the playthrough here and let me know what you think if you’ve tried it yourself.
